About North of Buffett

North of Buffett is currently a 93,000-word manuscript looking for a home.

A fictional memoir, it tells Calum Mayweather’s story of escape from two sides of the same coin: wide-eyed expatriate eager to experience new things and worn-out refugee yearning for something familiar.

It’s Lake Wobegon without the nostalgia, Michael Perry without the truck and Charlie Barens without the “ope” — a place where the people are real, the problems are mostly manageable and the Midwestern Nice is as authentic as the cheese curds are squeaky.

North of Buffett is a manuscript I’m eager to see become a book, so if you’re someone who can help make that happen, don’t hesitate to reach out. I am more than happy to talk, share or otherwise convince you that this is a story people want to read set in a place they want to visit.

Like that Twilight Zone commuter looking for his Willoughby, I think people right now are ready to take a break from the relentless anxiety that’s been building since COVID to spend some time in a place like Burly Flow, which might be north of Buffett, but is nevertheless an oasis where everyone, even brat eaters, can get behind the redemptive power of a cheeseburger in paradise.
